Angel3DO Sets New Graphics
Standard at Game Developers Conference
REDWOOD CITY, Calif. - March 31, 1999 - The 3DO Company (NASDAQ: THDO) announced today that its critically acclaimed PC game, Requiem: Avenging Angel, shipped to retailers nationwide today. Requiem: Avenging Angel is the first game to achieve 1920 x 1280 resolution at 30 frames per second, the first game in history to ever run at this high a resolution and be fully playable. The first person 3D action shooter pits Heavens Chosen Soldiers against Hells Fallen Demons invoking heavenly devastation on the PC screen. The 3DO Company fully utilized the capabilities of its proprietary 3D Requiem Engine to provide complete optimization for Windows® 95 and custom support for the 3dfx Voodoo2 and Voodoo3 chipsets and boards, along with NVIDIAs RIVA TNT and TNT2 3D processors. "What distinguishes this game from any other shipped this year is a special feature called angelic powers enabling players to bring down enemies with the ultimate powers of heaven and hell." said Trip Hawkins, chairman and CEO of The 3DO Company. "Advanced gamers with souped-up gaming systems will relish the graphic capabilities of the game, but casual gamers will also be delighted with the brilliant graphics on their standard PC, even without a 3D accelerator card. Nowhere else can angels cause such hell for PC gamers." At the recent Game Developers Conference in San Jose, CA, Requiem: Avenging Angel set a new industry standard for 3D gaming by running at 1920 x 1280 resolution at 30 frames-per-second on Creative Labs newest 3D graphics accelerator card powered by NVIDIAs RIVA TNT2 3D processor. The game is poised to set new standards in computer gaming by supporting not only the latest hardware accelerator technologies, but also the largest variety of graphics and sound cards that have been on the market since the advent of consumer 3D acceleration. |
"RIVA TNT2 delivers a hyper-burning fill rate making
it the only 3D processor to run Requiem: Avenging Angel at a mind-boggling 1920 x 1280 at
more than 30 frames-per-second," stated Michael Hara, vice president of corporate
marketing at NVIDIA. "Requiem: Avenging Angel and the RIVA TNT2 have taken visual
quality to the extreme and the results for end users will be heavenly."
With the new Voodoo3 3000, the newest 3D graphics board to carry the widely recognized 3dfx brand, Requiem: Avenging Angel will scream at more than 30 frames per second running at resolutions of 1920 x 1280, with full Z-buffering and MIP-mapping. "3DO is a valued development partner for 3dfx and has a long history of maximizing its groundbreaking content for 3dfx technology," said Michael Howse, senior vice president of worldwide marketing at 3dfx Interactive. "Requiem: Avenging Angel is yet another example of a 3DO title optimized for the full potential of Voodoo3. With availability expected in a few weeks, Voodoo3 combines the industrys finest high-performance hardware and content to create the ultimate game experience." Computer Gaming World magazine rated Requiem: Avenging Angel number two in its recent of Top Ten upcoming action games saying, "Dark and foreboding, Requiem is beautiful to look at, with incredibly detailed environments that embody the spreading corruption of the Fallen." GameSpot stated, " the unique premise, stylized look, and biblical storyline and powers have the potential to make a standout game." |
